Bug on initating combat

Yeah. It’s the only character they play.

Are they sure they’re logged in? You can view a combat but not engage with it if you’re not logged in.

(obviously impossible to do on the game client, but easy to do on the portal)

They can pose in the scene so I’m going to have to go with yes. I mean, you can’t view a private scene and pose in it without the game recognising you as logged in. If they had alts, they should still be able to get into the scene on the wrong alt, either, and if somehow they managed, it should show them posing on the wrong name.

That’s very true. But the scene is separate from the combat. It’s not inconceivable that they had a different browser window open. Many people even use multiple browsers, incognito windows, etc. - particularly if they play on multiple ares games or have multiple alts.

The initial theory was that a faux-NPC was getting added, but that doesn’t seem to be the case given the clues regarding achievements, damage, and the log. It’s something about the web portal not realizing that they have permission to control themselves…so I’m trying to rule out the obvious reasons why the portal might not realize who they are.

Yeah, that makes sense. When I staffed briefly on a game, heaven knows I kept posing from the wrong damned alt. It became a bit of a running joke.

Itzhak!Player says they’re using Firefox on an Android tablet though sometimes they access through Chrome (because Discord opens links in Chrome). That said, the first time around it was multiple players so I don’t think it’s a tablet issue, either.

Is it possible that they viewed the combat page before they were added to it?

I wonder if forcing a refresh on the page after they’re added fixes it.

It’s unlikely to be device-specific, and is almost certainly related to the steps/order.

It’s highly unlikely given they’re in PST and I was sitting here setting things up in CET, and not attaching the combat to the scene until after I was done setting it up.

… Now I wonder if that is the issue.

I can definitely force a refresh if there is a next time – I can obviously not reach through to other people’s browsers but I can ask them to do a hard refresh if they’re experiencing problems, and see what happens.

Yeah if you can find someone who’s actively having the problem, it’d be helpful if you could have them:

  1. Double-check that they’re logged in with the right character (check “Welcome” name at the top right)
  2. Refresh the page (regular refresh should do; no need for hard refresh)

I shall try to do this – though I hope it doesn’t happen a third time.

Did Itzhack start working? Did they leave and rejoin? Or is the combat just over…
